My favourite cruelty free cleaning products.

Updated: Jul 30, 2019

Being vegan isn't just about the food, you also need to be conscious about what cleaning products you are buying.

I have tried all different cruelty free products over the past few years and not many compare in quality or price to the British brand Astonish. I love all of their products and they can usually be found super cheap in stores like Home Bargains or B&M's.

Astonish Oxy Active Plus stain remover is amazing; it saved my favourite jeans from a very stubborn stain and I shall be forever thankful!

I honestly don't think you can beat british own brands. I also use Tesco's and Co-op's own brand products, which are labelled cruelty free and are super cheap.

Method and ecover are other brands I have used. However I was shocked to discover when the two companies merged that although they were labelled as being cruelty free, their products were tested on water fleas! The flea’s are known as Daphnia and I stopped buying the products from both brands as soon as I found out. This is because for me part of being vegan is respecting all life, no matter how small. However, ecover did release a statement to advise that as of July 2018, it no longer tests on Daphnia.

Making the choice to purchase products that are cruelty free means you are increasing demand for these products and not paying for animals to be tested on! It takes two seconds to check the back of a packet. These products are actually cheaper and better quality than the leading brands, which have been tested on animals.

It can be easy to just continue buying the same brands you always have and not think about the suffering those branded products have had on the animals they were tested on, but by making this one change for the better, we can make a difference!

When buying your cleaning products, look out for these signs. Sometimes a company (like Tesco's) won't have a symbol, but it does state the product hasn't been tested on animals.

This is a mild example of patch testing.

Animals are subject to all sorts of stomach turning testings, which result in the animal being in constant agony until they die. If we only buy cruelty free, then this kind of testing will have to end!

Live life cruelty free! ☮
